Hoodies, Football and Bonfires

Fall, it's finally here!
We all have our favorite seasons, and fall is definitely mine.
Fall is a season for hoodies and boots, football, bonfires with friends, family dinners and fires in the fireplace.
Now fall is not a season for fall break here at SCC, although we all want it. That's alright though, lets keep going strong Thanksgiving Break is almost here!
Now, I've only been blogging for a few weeks so I want you guys to get to know me a little bit more. I wanna share some fun pictures and tell you about things I like to do in my spare time especially in fall :)
Practically every Saturday in the fall I'm in Columbia at Mizzou Football games. Everyone who knows me knows that I'm practically always wearing Mizzou clothes. It's something that I absolutely love doing with my family and occasionally when I can drag my boyfriend along. LOL. Below is a picture of my dad and I at the MU vs. Georgia game, that we almost managed to win.

I spend a lot of time with my friends (when they're in town). It's the best when you and your friends have similar interest, because you get to do things that you love doing! Hunting and fishing is something I was raised around, so it's apart of my blood. Just this year I got into bow hunting, so especially this bow season I've spent a lot of time out in the woods trying to harvest my first bow kill. Thank goodness for my awesome boyfriend, who is showing me the ropes of bow hunting. I really enjoy fishing too! Doing anything with family and friends makes what your doing twenty times better!
As I mentioned in my last blogs, many of my friends have moved off to attend college. I also had a good friend join the Marines, and he left for bootcamp at the beginning of the summer. He unfortunately wasn't with us through all the crazy and fun times during the summer, but he was just home recently and we lived it up the couple weeks he was home! As much as I wish he was here, so I could call him when I was bored and wanted to hang out or when my car is making a funny noise; I'm so proud of him and I know he is doing something he loves. Love you Sean, I can't wait to see ya again!
What a perfect segway into what I want to talk about next! SCC is celebrating Veterans Week the week of November 5-12th. SCC is hosting some really interesting events during this week, if work or school doesn't conflict you should definitley check them out.  Link To Veterans Week Events

Last Thoughts: Make wise choices about who you spend your time with, because it will be time you will never get back! & Enjoy this weather!!!

Uproar Over Tweet

Sometimes I really wonder what people are thinking when they post things on social media. As a person who is active on both Facebook and Twitter, I'm really disturbed by the latest Twitter hoax. People take everything on Facebook and Twitter very seriously, so it's not a place to kid around on...especially about getting kidnapped.

On Sunday night, Kara Alongi from New Jersey posted on Twitter that there was an intruder in her house and told her followers to call 911. #helpfindkara began trending that evening, and she gained 94,000 followers. #helpfindkara began blowing up my twitter feed, and I was concerned about her well being.

Investigators later learned that someone had called for a taxi about the same time Alongi’s message was posted. The driver positively identified the teen as Kara. The driver said he took Alongi to the Rahway train station.
The picture above was released from Clark County Police and captured from a closed circuit television while waiting for a train at the Rahway station in New Jersey. She doesn't look like she is under to much distress to me. Authorities are not looking to arrest Alongi, but the investigated is just being treated as a missing runaway juvenile case. It is confirmed that she purchased a ticket to Penn Station in New York on Sunday evening. Clark County Police released a statement on Tuesday October 2 "As of 10 a.m. On 10/2/2012 Kara Alongi has not returned home. The Clark Police Department is investigating all leads in an effort to locate her and return her home."
I got a lot of my information from the article I linked. http://www.newjerseynewsroom.com/state/twitter-hoax-runaway-teen

Like I mentioned earlier, I really wonder what makes people put stuff up on social media. What makes you update your facebook status or tweet? What kind of posts do you put up? Do you like to include pictures?

I usually put things on Twitter and Facebook that I want people to know about. I have alot of family on Facebook, so I like to keep them informed of what I'm up to. I like to tell people if go on a trip for the weekend, or if I'm doing something fun. What would make a 16 year old girl want to put something like that on Twitter? My best guess is attention, and you better believe she got it. But it was definitely negative attention.

I know this is far fetched being that I'm in Missouri blogging about this but, I urge anyone who might know where Kara is to contact the Clark County Police Department or send an anonymous tip to Union County Crime Stoppers at 908-654-TIPS, www.uctip.org or Text UCTIP plus a message to 274637.

Final Thoughts: Think about things before you post to social media, it may come back to bite you.

See You Later... Not Goodbye

I will admit when I was in high school, coming to SCC was not high on my list at all. I wanted to go off to college like all my friends got to do. They got to decorate their dorms, go to welcome week parties and just get this whole “college experience” thing that everyone seems to talk about. I wanted that! I made the decision to come to SCC based on one thing… money. Yes, I will admit it is a very big thing. I didn’t want to be paying back student loans until I was 50. I knew everyone around me was going to support any decision I made, but they all made it apparent that the best school for me was SCC.

Well it has been more than a month since classes have started, and it has been quite an adjustment. In high school, you go five days a week which means you don’t do a whole lot in one day. I go to school three days a week, and those 50 minutes are packed! I’m not used to getting a bunch of homework, and that has changed a lot since starting college, too. In college, the teachers don’t tell you when an assignment is due; you’re expected to know that it is due. This is all such a change, and I’m just not used to it yet.

I know for a fact that I’m not the only one whose amount of friends got cut in half because of college. Of course they are all still my friends, but I only get to see them maybe twice a month for the weekends. Maybe we will have the occasional phone call or Skype date but that isn’t the same. Not only did I have friends that went off to college, but my boyfriend did too.

It makes me feel a little bit better knowing that I’m not the only one going through this rough transition. The worst part is knowing that you won’t see that person for two or three weeks. I’m really having a hard time being positive about all of this, but I know it will get better. There will be good days, there will be bad days, and when that friend or significant other comes home you will have days spent together.

Final thought: Enjoy every second you have with your loved ones.
